The Galaxial Tunes of M83

February 15, 2012 / Music, Uncategorized

Any music inspired by space is bound to be pretty epic. M83’s namesake, the Messier 83 galaxy, is one of the visibly brightest barred spiral galaxies in the sky; keeping this brilliance in mind, M83 has been blowing minds since being founded in 2001 by Anthony Gonzalez. Their latest album, Hurry Up We’re Dreaming, is a journey through dreams, nostalgia, and melancholy, but we’re anything but bummed when listening to the tracks.

Midnight City is a soaring epic ballad that’s been hailed as critics as one of the top singles of 2011, and it’s just one of the amazing tracks that we here at Wheatpaste have had on repeat pretty much nonstop for the last few months. Part shoegaze, part ambient, part electropop, and all dope, Hurry Up We’re Dreaming is simply the latest of a string of releases making up M83’s discography. Over the past few years they’ve continued to create buzz by touring with Kings of Leon, the Killers, Depeche Mode, and next up is the fab fest Coachella. They’ll be joined with the likes of the Black Keys, Radiohead, Neon Indian, Bon Iver, the Shins, Girl Talk, and oh, only about a hundred more bands over two full weekends!

Check ‘em out on Spotify, Pandora, iTunes – wherever you need to go to discover what very well may be the top album of 2011!
