Cool Skateboards in SoCal
Skateboarding isn’t just for SoCal anymore, but the heart of the sport still resides solidly in the Golden State. Cool skateboards are way more easily accessible than they were only a few years ago, and with major films like “Lords of Dogtown” gracing the big screen, this rad pastime will continue to spread even more across the world. Still, there are a few homegrown shops that are still crafting cool skateboards that we’re nuts over and think you’ll dig too. Some of ‘em even look like pieces of art that you won’t want to ride!
1. Gold Coast Skateboards
These dudes straight up rule. Their collections of cool skateboards include longboards, cruisers, and transitions from a ton of insanely rad artists lending their $kills to the art of the board. Of course, we love fan favorite Jolby’s boards, but there’s plenty of other eye candy bearing the Gold Coast label. If you’re looking to rock a seriously cool skateboard with seriously cool graphics, check ‘em out.
It’s not our fault that San Diego is a mecca for cool skateboards. These North County natives are smack in the middle of skateboard heaven, and they take the idea of cool skateboards to the next level. Their hand-etched wood boards look like they belong on the wall of a museum rather than scuffed up on the streets, but you’re sure to make some heads turn if you rock a STRGHT board. After checking these dudes out at Agenda and seeing the insane quality of the boards, we’ve gotta admit we were a little skeptical about the hand-etched claim. Still, we checked out their facility and were blown away. These up-and-comers are NOT to be trifled with.
3. Roger Skateboards
Michael Sieben is a god. His art is sick, so it stands to reason that his skateboard company would be epic. Since 2008, they’ve been rocking the skateboarding world with consistently awesome releases and partnerships with the likes of Adidas, Thrasher, and more. They’re slowly taking over the world with their cool skateboards and we’re just happy to sit back and watch the ride.
4. Arbor Collective
“We all need clean air to skate, clean water to surf, and snow to ride.” Amen brothers! Arbor Collective out of Venice, California actually gives a hoot about the world around us and helps to keep us stoked without negatively affecting the environment. Not only do they rock cool skateboards, they’ve also got rad snowboards and other apparel to keep you stylin’ in all weather. Arbor also makes it a point to spotlight dope artists that they work with to support the independent arts, which of course we’re totally down with. We can’t resist a shoutout to Hannah Stouffer’s collection with Arbor, since her fabric wall decals and canvas wall art for Wheatpaste Art Collective are otherworldly amazing. This other collective is not to be missed.
