What are your favorite summer movies to watch with friends?
Is there anything better than spreading a blanket out for summer movies screened outdoors? We didn’t think so. Whether you’re a family man or a single gal, there are plenty of summer movies to please everyone. Wheatpaste has picked our top 3 classic summer movies that we could definitely watch anytime! If you’re planning on hosting a backyard movie screening this summer, we recommend one of these guaranteed crowd pleasers.
For the kiddies: Heavyweights (1995)
Everybody has fun summer camp memories… right? Not if you ended up at Camp Hope! Gerry gets a rude awakening when his fun summer dreams get interrupted by a sadistic Ben Stiller, who takes over the camp and schemes to turn it into an infomercial for his weight-loss program. Parents and kids alike are sure to ROFL at the insane antics and triumphant comedic moments, and everyone is sure to relate to many-a-camp moment from their youth. This little gem only gets better with age.
For teens/adults: Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
Of all the low-budget summer movies, WHAS boasts a star-studded cast of then unknown actors like Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Molly Shannon, David Hyde Pearce, Bradley Cooper, and more! It’s definitely more low-brow than the family-friendly Heavyweights, but adults won’t be able to contain their snickering and all out gut busting laughter at the ridiculousness antics from start to finish. We especially enjoy the talent show ending… but no spoiler alerts!
For the whole family: What About Bob? (1991)
OK, we’re totally guilty of picking old movies. What can we say? We love the 90’s! What About Bob is Bill Murray at his finest. Have you ever had that “friend” that just didn’t get the hint? Then you know all about Bob. His instant overbonding with his therapist (Richard Dreyfuss) leaves Dreyfuss in an awkward position when Bob shows up during his carefully planned family vacation, throwing his plans into chaos. You’ll cringe, you’ll laugh, you’ll love it.
