Art as a Weapon

"Meaningless anguish or vulgar amusement thus become convenient safety valves for human anxiety. The idea of using art as a weapon of protest is combated."

- Che Guevara

Part art film, part political documentary, the Kickstarter project "Art as a Weapon" is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated independent films of the year. Themes span from Buddhism to street art in the film and based on the website, it's going to be one wild ride. Director Jeffery Durkin's inspiration to communicate the story of Burmese struggle for democracy came was sparked by Shepard Fairey's mural of a Burmese monk created right here in San Diego. Interviews include the noted street artist Fairey, along with Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi as they discuss the momentous power of art to reach the masses worldwide.

Only 3 days remain on the Kickstarter countdown, and if the $30,000 goal isn't met the entire project is kaput. They're JUST about there, but to make sure they get that extra push over the cliff we decided to spread the word! If human rights in itself doesn't inspire you to donate, think of all the great street art that you'll get to peep as a bonus. Check out the trailer and donate today!
